Modernising London Road will allow Pilgrims Hospices’ remarkable legacy to continue on the very site that our founder, Ann Robertson established over 40 years ago.

Focusing our attention on modernising our London Road site will ensure our long-term future, providing quality hospice care in the heart of Canterbury which is one of our core principles.

Our Future Plans

This website is where we will share updates on our plans and progress on improving our hospice facilities.

A few years ago, we explored relocating to a purpose-built hospice on the edge of Canterbury, funded in part by selling our properties on London Road. However, after careful consideration, we have decided to remain at London Road and focus on modernising and improving our existing facilities.

This significant investment will ensure that our hospice continues to meet the evolving needs of patients, families, staff, and volunteers in Canterbury. These will be the first major improvement to our London Road hospice in many years.

In the coming months, we will be developing detailed design plans for the modernisation. We will ensure our plans respect the character of the local area while creating a welcoming and supportive environment.

Check back here for updates on our progress.

It will take at least two years for us to undertake detailed design work, obtain planning permission and appoint a construction partner. Throughout this time our services will not be impacted at all.

Whilst this project is positive, operationally nothing is going to change in the next two years at London Road.
